Peter Moore Steps Down

In a surprise announcement today, Peter Moore stepped down from his position as corporate vice president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB). He is to be replaced by Don Mattrick, former president of the Worldwide Studios at Electronic Arts (EA).

Moore, who joined Microsoft in 2003, has been a long-time industry figure, including a previous incarnation as president and COO of SEGA of America. It does not appear that he will be on the sidelines for long, as he has been appointed as president of the Sports division at Mattrick's former employer, EA, which is based in the Silicon Valley, nearer to Moore's home.

Mattrick's first company, Distinctive Software, was acquired by EA in 1992, and he subsequently held several important positions within the company until his departure in 2006. In February of 2007, Mattrick was personally recruited as a consultant to both the IEB and the Entertainment and Devices Division by Peter Moore himself.
