HP get behind quad-core Opteron in server market

HP have sent an email out to the great and good in the hardware and analyst community pledging their support for upcoming AMD quad-core Opteron in their server offerings.

David Berlind's blog has the goodies, and here's a snippet:

"HP remains committed to offering the broadest choice of platforms to address the wide range of requirements our customers demand. We’re excited about the first shipment of Barcelona and look forward to bringing these new quad-core-based ProLiant servers to market by the end of the year."

The email mentions that the new processors will help HP's Opteron customers increase power efficiency and expand their virtualisation plans in the datacentre, via the increased density and IPC the native quad-core processors are going to bring.

With controversy mildly raging in cyberspace over Intel's latest power efficiency claims, we look forward to in-depth analysis of the new architecture and Barcelona implementation when it launches on Monday, to see how it holds up.
