Overclocking X700 Pro - Far Cry Performance
Moving on the overclocking of the Sapphire Hybrid Radeon X700 PRO, we achieved overclocked rates of 480MHz for the core and 550MHz for the RAM.
Far Cry

X700 PRO - Far Cry (FPS) | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x1024 | 1600x1200 |
Default (425/432) | 86.2 | 86.1 | 80.8 | 59.0 | 40.3 |
480/550 | 86.6 | 86.9 | 85.4 | 69.5 | 47.9 |
% Increase from Default | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x1024 | 1600x1200 |
480/550 | 0.5% | 0.8% | 5.7% | 17.8% | 18.9% |
The relative clock increases in their overclocked settings are higher for the PRO in this test than for the speeds achieved on the XT, especially so for the RAM. In this case there was a maximum performance increase of 19%, and the average rending performance at 1280x1024 is pushed well above 60 FPS.

X700 PRO - Far Cry, 4x FSAA + 8x AF (FPS) | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x1024 | 1600x1200 |
Default (425/432) | 84.0 | 72.1 | 52.1 | 35.7 | 25.6 |
480/550 | 85.5 | 81.8 | 62.5 | 43.3 | 31.1 |
% Increase from Default | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x1024 | 1600x1200 |
480/550 | 1.8% | 13.5% | 20.0% | 21.3% | 21.4% |
With 4x FSAA and 8x AF we are seeing a high gain of a little over 21%, and the average performance is over 60 FPS at 1024x768. Given the high bandwidth nature of FSAA the large increase in memory clock rates is likely helping out significantly here.
