Games Benchmarks - Far Cry (DirectX)

Far Cry is a DirectX9 title that uses a number of PS2.0 and PS1.1 shaders in the current version of the patch used here. We're using a custom Firing Squad benchmark here, that doesn't utilise any character as the benchmark does operate as the game would with other characters in the scene.

As with Tomb Raider the difference between the X700 PRO and 9800 PRO is fairly slim, at the higher resolutions where it becomes more limited by the graphics capabilities rather than dependant on the CPU performance. Likewise the difference between the X700 XT and 9800 PRO rises to 14%.

With 4x FSAA and 8x AF the situation is very similar again between the X700 PRO and 9800 PRO with a very little performance difference - in fact because the 9800 PRO is only 128MB it suffers a little more at 1600x1200 because of the frame buffer space requirements of 4x FSAA, whereas the 256MB X700 PRO doesn't. The difference between the X700 XT and 9800 PRO opens up to as high as 25% here.
