New NVIDIA display driver for Windows 7 beta

Tuesday 03rd March 2009, 12:04:00 AM, written by Rys

Users of the Windows 7 beta whose PCs sport NVIDIA GPUs will be pleased to hear that the company has released new drivers.  18x.xx series code, the new 181.71 drivers support CUDA, SLI and PhysX where the hardware is capable, along with WDDM 1.1 support for G80 and up.

The driver is available for both 32- and 64-bit versions of the OS.

and x64 users still do not have opengl support even with vista drivers.
Well they bloody well better sort that out or how will I be able to play Quake Live when I upgrade to Win7-64? Jawed

I don't know where this is going (when the OS expires a new update will be out...), but I just wanted to point out that AMD should really update their Windows 7 drivers.

Because you guys are complaining about beta drivers for an OS you can't use in three months.

I just want to point out that AMD should have good Windows 7 drivers when Windows 7 is out and focus more on their current drivers and crossfire. No amount of me missing OpenGL is going to make Catalyst 9.9 any better.

But then the public release candidate will be out and I can easily "upgrade" my installation.

Yikes! Where is all this hate coming from? It's not like the Windows 7 display drivers are worlds different from Vista. I wouldn't even mind if they made opengl in the Vista x64 (wddm 1.0) drivers work on Windows 7. I don't think I'm being too unreasonable here asking for simple opengl support!

Just .. ticked off by People wanting this new GT130M over their old 8800GTX :D

How do you think Win7 is holding up on a i915 :D lol Although it's really smooth on the desktop (even better than XP) and I absolutely love firefox on it, I can't decode one single video for playback with those things. I won't even ask for that over at intel.

Seems NVidia's 2 months late to the party, AMD's had WDDM 1.1 support under Windows 7 for a while.

When Windows 7 public beta was out, NVIDIA did have a Windows 7 driver ready, it's just not 180.xx driver so it does not support CUDA 2.1 (but CUDA 2.0 is supported). It also supports WDDM 1.1.
